New classes will start the week of May 13! We have added some new instructors and a new class structure that we hope will make your experience even better at Flying Paws.

We have changed the class structure just slightly to make your experience even better. First, Pre-Agility is a pre-requisite for all classes. After that, classes will be divided into Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. While classes will be in eight-week sessions, advancement will depend on individual mastery of each level. This will allow you and your dog to move at your own pace!

Agility “Try It” will be Saturday, May 11

Does your dog go crazy when its time to get in the car? Do you like doing activities with your best buddy?

If you’ve ever thought you might enjoy agility–or if you know someone who might enjoy it–there will be a chance to try out some of the equipment and talk to an instructor about what you and your dog might do in this fantastic sport.

Flying Paws will host a “Try It” Day on Saturday, May 11 from 10 am to 12 pm. The event is free of charge, but space is limited. Reserve your spot by contacting Jana Wilson at wilsonjsjana @ yahoo.com.

Spring classes start Sunday, March 10! Check out our class info page to see which class is best for you. Here’s the line-up:

Agility 1: Sundays, 3:30-4:30 pm (please note this is a new day and time for this class)

Agility 2: Wednesdays 6:30-7:30 pm

Agility 3: Thursdays, 6-7 pm

Agility 4: TBD (check back and send Sharon an email if you are interested)

All classes cost $80 for 8 weeks. We’re sorry, but there will be NO Pre-Agility class for this session. We will offer Pre-Agility in the early summer session that will start mid-May.

Winter classes start Sunday, January 6 (Pre-Agility). Check out our class info page to see which class is best for you. Here’s the line-up:

Pre-Agility (six weeks): Sundays 3:30-4:30 (there will be occasional change in time or day for this class due to Advanced Handling Seminars with Deb Abbott)

Agility 1: Tuesdays 6:15-7:15 pm

Agility 2: Wednesdays 6:30-7:30 pm

All classes except Pre-Agility cost $80 for 8 weeks. Pre-Agility is $60 for six weeks.

Flying Paws Agility Seminar in December

Focus on Skills:  Jumping and Contacts

Join instructors Jana Wilson and Sharon Marble for a two-hour seminar focusing on sharpening your skills and burning some energy off of your dog!

Using Linda Mecklenburg’s “Developing Jumping Skills” we will work on fine-tuning  you and your dog with a very logical progression of jump training that is suitable for all levels.  You’ll also get a handout to take home with some exercises to practice on your own or at open practice.

We’ll also review the 2-on, 2-off method for contact obstacles.  You’ll learn to “proof” your dog and work on various strategies for running the dog walk, A-frame and the teeter successfully.

The October/November session of classes begins this soon! Here’s the lineup:

Pre-Agility starts Tuesday, October 2 at 7:15 pm for six weeks. Cost: $60

Agility 1 starts Tuesday, October at 6 pm for eight weeks. Cost: $80

Agility 2 starts Wednesday October 3 at 6 p.m. for eight weeks. Cost: $80

Agility 3 starts Sunday, October 7 at 12:45 p.m. for eight weeks. Cost: $80

Agility 4 starts Thursday, October 4 at 6:30 p.m. for eight weeks. Cost $80

Flying Paws Is Flying Again In Our New Home!

Flying Paws Agility Club will be offering lessons and open practices at our new location at 1999 N. Packinghouse Road, Lower level B, near the intersection of Vernal Pike and Rt. 37 in Bloomington. New classes begin June 6, and open practices will be held on Monday evenings and Sunday mornings.

FPAC is offering club membership for$25 per month or $275 per year (that’s 1 month free!)! What does this get you? All of your open practices at no charge (instead of $10 per session).

Open practices are currently held most Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings. This gives you and your dog additional practice time on all the club equipment.

We’re the cover story in H&L

Piper and club member Fran Hughes grace this month’s cover of H&L (Homes & Lifestyles of South-Central Indiana) magazine.

Reporter Lee Hadley visited an open practice on a snowy day in early February, Super Bowl weekend to be exact. At that time FPAC was using a temporary facility well off Harmony Road on the west side of Bloomington. Nonetheless, reporter and club members braved the elements for what turned out to be an informative feature about FPAC.

Alongside the article are photos of several club members and their dogs. If you pick up a copy of the magazine, you’ll also see pictures of Elizabeth Taylor and her poodle Tippy; Leslie Crandell and her dog Scout (who has a handsome profile on the feature spread); and Emily Chester and her dogs Cassie and Sadie.

Eventually the April issue will be online at H&L’s website. Until then, those interested can purchase a copy at the Herald-Times office on South Walnut Street in Bloomington.
