April cover of H&L magazine

Piper and club member Fran Hughes grace this month’s cover of H&L (Homes & Lifestyles of South-Central Indiana) magazine.

Reporter Lee Hadley visited an open practice on a snowy day in early February, Super Bowl weekend to be exact. At that time FPAC was using a temporary facility well off Harmony Road on the west side of Bloomington. Nonetheless, reporter and club members braved the elements for what turned out to be an informative feature about FPAC.

Alongside the article are photos of several club members and their dogs. If you pick up a copy of the magazine, you’ll also see pictures of Elizabeth Taylor and her poodle Tippy; Leslie Crandell and her dog Scout (who has a handsome profile on the feature spread); and Emily Chester and her dogs Cassie and Sadie.

Eventually the April issue will be online at H&L’s website. Until then, those interested can purchase a copy at the Herald-Times office on South Walnut Street in Bloomington.

Hannah is a five year old Sheltie/Schnauzer mix.  She began agility when she was almost two years old after finishing obedience classes.  Hannah primarily competes in CPE (Canine Performance Events) and has done some trialing in USDAA (United States Dog Agility Association).  Hannah has completed levels 1-3.  She is currently working on level 4 events and some level 5.  When not playing in agility, Hannah enjoys chasing her red ball, destuffing squeaky toys, lounging, eating, and running with her bff Nina through the field.  Hannah and I enjoy our time with agility so much!  We have such a great bond since training together!  I experience such a thrill when we cross the finish line and had a beautiful run!   I will always cherish those moments after EVERY run celebrating with my forever best friend!!

Fran describes herself as a relatively new resident of Greene County (almost a year, now) having moved from northern Illinois. She’s a retired educator.  She and her 2-year-old border collie, Piper, have been in agility lessons for about a year. Last fall they competed in theirr first CPE trials with what said were “wildly fluctuating results.”

Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth has been training with her poodle Tippy since 2008 and has competed at one trial. She tried agility with her great Pyrenees, and he was smart enough to realize that if he lay down that we would make him do agility. Elizabeth has always been involved with training of dogs in one way or another. She have had to work through her dogs’ challenges of working and paying attention. Agility is a great way to work out and bond with your dog. Elizabeth and Tippy are hoping to meet many more doggie friends in the area and have some fun.

Les and Scout met the spring of 2008 on the streets of Anderson IN. Grieving a previous canine, Les was not interested in the task of training a young border collie but rescued him and began an uncommitted relationship. After two months she enrolled him in Petco’s obedience classes where she and Scout began the art of eye contact. Successfully trained, they decided to expand their play time and join FPAC where their relationship has blossomed, and they have become best buds forever! Scout is now four years old.
