Class information is below, but please feel free to email us at FPagility@gmail.com for more information, or to discuss which class is best for you.

Our classes are 6-week sessions, about 1 hour each week.  The cost is $140 for the six week session.  We happily work with junior handlers and recommend junior handlers be at least 10 years of age.  Exceptions may be made on an individual team basis. 

Potential students MUST register prior to attending class.

Agility Foundations (Prerequisite for all classes)

Prerequisite: Dogs are at least 10 months old.  No other training is required, although it is always desirable to have the basics of sit, come, stay, and walk on a leash without pulling.

Skills Learned: Dog walks with handler on both sides, can be sent around a cone and jump standard.  Dog is introduced to tippy and travel boards and table to have exposure to new surfaces. Dog can go through short tunnel. Dog and handler can perform push turn, pull turn, and front cross.

Intro to Obstacles (May be in this level for more than one session)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Agility Foundations or permission after agreement from the Board President.

Skills learned: Dog goes over jumps from all angles and begins to learn a stay at start line.  Dog can be sent over jump or follow movement of handler to go past jump. Dog is confident entering a tunnel at a slight curve. Dog is confident going over a lower dog walk.  Dog understands stopped contact behavior and can stay until released with handler nearby. Exposure to beginning teeter skills and A-frame.  

Handler Skills:  Front cross and post turn with dog going over a jump. Start line stay.  Ability to sequence 3-4 obstacles successfully.

Obstacles (May be in this level for more than one session)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Obstacles 1 or permission after agreement from the Board President.

Skills learned: All skills from Obstacles 1, plus ability to maneuver full-size dogwalk with successful stopped contact, even with proofing. Dog can run over A-Frame with successful contacts. Dog can drive through open 2×2 weave poles from different approaches. Dog can perform teeter at low level with successful stopped contact. Exposed to tire jump and broad jump.

Handler skills: Front cross, introduction to rear cross and start line stay executed at least one obstacle away.  Ability to sequence 4-6 obstacles successfully.

Weaves and Teeter

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Obstacles 2 or permission after agreement from the Board President.

Skills Learned: This class focuses on weave poles, working different entrances, and building independence on sets of 6 and 12 weaves and build up to a full size teeter.

Handling (This is a 2 part class)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Obstacles 2 or permission after agreement from the Board President.

Handling is about the communication between the handler and the dog, and this class focuses on the skills needed by the handler to “tell” the dog what to do on the course.

Skills learned:  Understanding of handling elements (movement, position, eyes, etc.), walking the dog’s line, sending and recalls over jumps and various types of crosses.

    • Thursdays at 5:00pm with Nancy
  • Handling Part 2

Course Work (WILL need more than one session of this class)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Mastering Teeters and Weaves AND Handling parts 1 and 2 or permission after agreement from the Board President.

Skills learned:  This session will use entry level courses. 

Students will learn how to review a course map to determine a preliminary handling plan and how to walk a course and solidify their handling plan, including an alternate in case something goes wrong, successful side changes in motion, sequencing several obstacles successfully while incorporating the appropriate handling techniques. Emphasis will be placed on the dog’s path.

Dog skills: Ability to take all obstacles with appropriate cues. 

  • Mondays at 6:15pm with Nancy

Advanced Course Work (WILL need more than one session of this class)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Mastering Teeters and Weaves AND Handling parts 1 and 2 or permission after agreement from the Board President.

Skills learned:  This session will use more advanced courses.

Flying Paws will offer one or two-day seminars from time to time that will focus on skills students may need to improve, such as weaves, teeter, 2-O, 2-O, and start line stays.
